The Government has updated the Operational Plan for the implementation of the National Mine Action Strategy until 2033. The adopted amendments are aimed at updating the responsible authorities for the implementation of certain measures in the sector and optimizing tasks and activities in the field of mine action.

“Following the reorganization of the Ministry for Reintegration, which was responsible for information activities aimed at reducing the impact of explosive ordnance on people’s lives and activities, it was necessary to designate a responsible authority for this area. This function has been assumed by the Center for Humanitarian Demining. The CHD will also be responsible for implementing a prioritization system for contaminated territories to be cleared, taking into account their economic, social, and security significance,” summarized the results of the meeting Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Ihor Bezkaravainyi.

The territorial prioritization system is expected to become operational by the end of 2026. The project will be implemented with funding from donors and international organizations.

The operational plan also includes tasks to enhance assistance to victims of explosive ordnance. This will be carried out with the involvement of donor support.

In addition, the 2022 Operational Plan of Measures for Mine Action has been declared invalid. The document became obsolete following the adoption of the National Mine Action Strategy in 2024.

More than 50 stakeholders in the mine action sector contributed to the development of the draft amendments, including representatives of executive authorities, regional military administrations, mine action operators, and international organizations.
