About the Platform

Demine Ukraine is a national mine action platform created by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, aimed at comprehensively addressing the challenges associated with the contamination of Ukrainian lands by explosive hazards.

Role of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine in Humanitarian Demining

The coordination of the state policy implementation on humanitarian demining falls under the competence of the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economy of Ukraine and includes:

• Ensuring the coherent functioning of the mine action (MA) system in Ukraine;
• Developing the National Mine Action Strategy until 2033 and the Operational Plan for its implementation;
• Building MA capacity in accordance with current Ukrainian realities;
• Establishing effective communication with national and international stakeholders;
• Fostering productive cooperation with governmental and non-governmental donors.

The activities of mine action actors in Ukraine are coordinated by the National Mine Action Authority, which includes the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. The National Mine Action Authority serves as an interagency auxiliary body under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine is responsible for developing the National Mine Action Strategy (up to 2033) and the Operational Plans for its implementation. The purpose of these documents is to establish a national vision for addressing the issue of explosive hazard contamination of Ukraine's territory and reducing their impact on people's lives and the country's economy.

The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine is also responsible for implementing the National Mine Action Strategy for the period up to 2033. The Strategy defines plans, principles of mine action, and approaches to prioritizing humanitarian demining needs, aiming for consistent and harmonious development of the mine action system in Ukraine with maximum involvement of all stakeholders.

Additionally, the Ministry of Economy is working on establishing a Platform for the development of innovative technological solutions in mine action. Through collaboration with other stakeholders, it facilitates research on the economic impact of explosive hazard contamination on the environment, assesses the current state, and explores future development prospects of assistance systems for persons affected by explosive hazards. Another key focus area is coordinating mine action operators, as well as national and international entities involved in building the mine action capacity in Ukraine.
